An excited team of 11 traveled to Nottingham for the U23 and Masters National Sprint Championships that included selection events to the Junior and U23 World Championships.
The weekend started on Friday for some with our fantastic volunteers, giving extra time to help run the Paracanoe Olympic selection – Thank you.
As saturday dawned there was a stiff headwind making it chilly but it was dry, racing opened with the Boys U18 K2 with Fletch, Andre and Nathaniel in early action, Closely followed by Lu and the day progressed non stop till racing finished with James racing the 1000m Over 44 Masters just after 6pm.
The first day saw a good sprinkling of metalwork clanking with Xav winning the Men’s U23 K2 500m with his partner Dylan, taking Silver in the U23 1000m K1, and a Bronze in the Mixed K2 500m with his partner Amy Green. James also took a bronze in the O44 1000m K1.
On the second day the weather remained similar but the medals continued to come – Ben and Piran took the Bronze medal Men’s U23 1000m K2, James battled to take Silver in the K1 500m and Damon pushed James to Bronze in the O44 500 K2. Xav added to his haul with a win in the U23 K4 500m to be crowned National Champions.
Our U18 team of Andre, Beth, Ben, Fletcher and Nathaniel raced well and laid the foundations for some great results at their national championships at the July regatta. It was also great to welcome to the team Lu and Chloe – hopefully we will see them both race at the nationals.
Results from the Regatta are available here and congratulations, and we await the outcomes from the selection panel to see if any of our paddlers will be invited to represent GB at the World Championships.
The regatta and the paddler performances would not be possible to achieve without the parents and volunteers who help run the regatta and transport the paddlers and the club would like to thank and celebrate them too! We also thank Ben for his awesome photos.
The next regatta is on the 6th and 7th July for the Senior, Junior National Championships. Please get in touch if you would like to race.
